Vintage Art Deco Revival Moorish Bust Chalkware Sculpture-Alexander Backer

This beautifully modeled sculptural chalkware bust is a striking survivor of earlier mid century USA produced home decor design. This is pre-ABCO Alexander Backer and the figural presence is elegant and powerful.
In a lingering nod to Art Deco and the impeccable Austrian chalkware masks and heads of the early 30's, the sleek, sinuous turbaned form is grounded on an oblong base with incised motifs.
The head cloth element suggests composite or resin addition, enhancing the form by textural contrast. The condition is very good-with less than expected signs of age, paint loss or notable detractions. It's pretty gorgeous.
